With strong support from the business and conservation communities, Commander Carlos Del Toro (USN. ret.) reported raising $94,797 in the first three months of the year. He ended the quarter with over $80,240 cash on hand.
- Del Toro raises more in 1 quarter than Del. Mark Cole raised in previous 2 entire campaigns
Del Toro reported $94,797 in contributions for the first quarter of 2007 (January 1 – March 31). This tremendous outpouring of support means that Del Toro raised more money in three months than opponent Mark Cole raised in the entire 2003 cycle ($89,954) or the entire 2005 cycle ($86,464) [VA State Board of Elections, Campaign Finance Reporting].
- Del Toro takes commanding Cash on Hand lead over Cole, almost 2 to 1
Del Toro has over $80,240 cash on hand, while Cole has less than $45,874.
Del Toro’s cash on hand exceeds the amount of money that Cole spent in either 2003 ($74,639) or 2005 ($79,712) [VA State Board of Elections, Campaign Finance Reporting].
- Cole taking voters for granted?
Del. Mark Cole raised only $2,740, earning contributions from just 3 individuals and 2 Political Action Committees.
“I’ve always felt that if you work hard, good things happen,” said Del Toro. “I’ve been working hard, really enjoying talking to voters and community groups, and listening to people about what they need our state government to do.”
“I think business leaders are contributing because they know me, know what I stand for and what I can do to make sure government is a partner in helping business and employees succeed here,” said Del Toro. “People who care passionately about conservation really responded to my commitment and leadership in protecting the character and beauty of our region. That, and my early, consistent opposition to the proposed above-ground, high-voltage power line, really seems to be catching on with people.”
